Serpentine Gallery + LondonLASER  Screening, London

December 11, 2018 – 6pm

A report from John Feldman:

Tuesday night (December 11) I had a lot of fun answering questions via Skype after a screening of Symbiotic Earth hosted by the Serpentine Gallery +LondonLASER at Central Saint Martins College, University of the Arts London.

I appreciate all the effort that went into setting up the screening and the Q&A afterwards. Thank you to Mariana Heilmann and Heather Barnett of Central Saint Martins College Univeristy of the Arts London and to Kostas Stasinopoulos and Lucia Pietroiusti of the Serpentine Gallergy.

Alex Marlow, the film’s assistant editor, gave a brief introduction to the film which was shown with an intermission.  He reported that it was a full house with an enthusiastic, attentive audience.  Heather Barnett wrote me  “It is a remarkable film, navigating so many questions of biological knowledge and the politics of scientific research, whilst also revealing an insightful and respectful biography on Margulis – she makes for an enigmatic (and dogmatic) protagonist!”

I also received an email from artist Sofi Lee-Henson, who was in the audience. She wrote: “I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish and felt like I not only learned a lot, but felt an utter exchange of love, unbound by time or space.  I entered my seat knowing nothing of Lyn’s work and left feeling empowered and connected to her and her work, and saddened to learn of her passing. It’s a strange feeling. I commend you on your masterpiece.”
