Screening of Symbiotic Earth at University of Valencia December 11-12, 2019

SPANISH TOUR OF SYMBIOTIC EARTH
On December 11-12, 2019  the University of Valencia hosted a conference centered around the screening of Symbiotic Earth. Our colleague Rubén Duro attended the conference and reported that it was “a great success!”  Rubén reported that “At the end of the screening, many people went to me and said that the film is extraordinary.” A professor at the National Distance Education University told Rubén that he is excited about using the film as the curriculum for a science course. Prof. Eva Barreno, Full Professor of Botany at the University of Valencia, organized the conference. Check out the University’s webpage for the event which includes video with the conference participants.

On Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 5:30 pm, Symbiotic Earth will be screened in València at Centre del Carme-Cultura Contemporánea, a cutting-edge modern art museum. Laura Benítez Valero is organizing the screening which will be held in the Sala Capitular at the museum C/ Museu, nº 2. 46003 València. Rubén Duro will lead a post-screening discussion.

On Friday, February 14, 2020 at 6 pm, selected chapters of Symbiotic Earth will be screened at the Botanical Gardens of the University of Valencia,  Auditori Joan Plaça, Carrer de Quart, 80, 46008 València, Spain. The screening is part of the Botanical Garden’s third annual four-day commemoration of the UN’s International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11) which recognizes the critical role women and girls play in science and technology.

Other cultural institutions in Spain have expressed an interest in presenting the film in the coming months. We are very happy that the film is receiving such an enthusiastic reception in Spain as Barcelona was a second home for Lynn Margulis.

We are grateful to Rubén Duro for organizing the Spanish tour of the film. Rubén is an extraordinary photographer and videographer of the microscopic world. Some of his images appeared in Symbiotic Earth. You can learn more about his work on his website:  https://scienceintoimages.com/
