SYMBIOTIC EARTH COMMUNITY SCREENINGS

MARCH 2018

SETI Institute, Mountain View, CA, March 13, 2018
Symbiotic Earth was screened at the SETI Institute (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) March 13 to about two dozen scientists from the Institute and others who had arrived for a workshop on SETI that started the next day.  “Nothing but positive comments – everyone enjoyed it,” wrote Jill Tarter, Bernard M. Oliver Chair for SETI Research at the SETI Institute, who organized the screening.

University of Exeter, 15 March 2018, 18:30
Tim Lenton writes: Symbiotic Earth had its West Country (U.K.) premiere (!) here at the University of Exeter on Thursday evening – with over 100 people enjoying it together – thanks to new ‘Global Systems Institute’ in Exeter that we’re launching soon. That was followed by Peter (Horton) doing a Gaia workshop yesterday, which the film set up brilliantly. Several people came up to me after the film enthusing about it, e.g. Nick Smirnoff (professor of biochemistry) said “we should get all of our Biosciences students to watch this.” I was also watching it thinking ‘how can I get hold of some of this material to use with my class? Thanks again for a wonderful film.

Here’s a quote from an e-mail Hummingbird Films received: My husband and I saw Symbiotic Earth the other night, at Exeter University here in the UK. We absolutely loved it. My husband is Professor of Plant Physiology at Exeter, and I am an interested layperson; being able to delight both audiences is quite an achievement. Anne Jackson

Andrew Brousseau hosted a screening of Symbiotic Earth in Gloucester MA at the Cape Ann Cinema. Andrew reports We had a count of just over 50 people. I completely enjoyed my second viewing of the movie. You did a VERY good job putting the film together and explaining the institutional-cultural issues with science as well as how the symbiotic viewpoint is a viable alternative to Neo Darwinism. I think this is a great piece of work to introduce people to Lynn’s world.”

The screening was so successful that Andrew is planning to have another screening.

North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC  Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 3 pm
Symbiotic Earth was presented by Dr. Lucy Laffitte and North Carolina State University, Department of History on March 27.  Dr. Lafitte writes: A very successful viewing yesterday! We had 28 people watch the film. One member of the audience drove from Durham because he had been a student of Lynn’s. That was a treat because he shared personal insights. Thank you for making the film. We would definitely like to show this at our July International Big History Conference in Villanova, PA.
